Join us for our launch party: 2pm, 6th September 2009, Butlers Farmhouse, Herstmonceux, East Sussex. September 6th sees the official launch party for the new patient-led charity Research For Life, with a Garden Party and live jazz band at Butlers Farmhouse in Herstmonceux, East Sussex. Research For Life, in keeping with its name, is a charity dedicated to raising awareness and funding for various diseases and conditions, supporting cutting edge biomedical research into the following areas:
Focusing on those conditions which receive little government funding for medical research, the charity hopes to be able to raise enough support to make up the significant shortfall in funding for conditions such as M.E. and Fibromyalgia. Research For Life aims to help further scientific understanding of these conditions, in order to provide effective treatment for patients, who are often debilitated by these illnesses. Founder of Research For Life, Clare Palmer, an active member of the Fibromyalgia and M.E. Community, has a clear vision for the charity: “In setting up Research For Life I am hoping to create awareness of the illnesses affecting so many people each day, as well as raise money to help fund much-needed medical research. By doing this we will make a significant and lasting difference to the quality of life of patients and their families.” “I myself live with the so-called ‘Invisible Illness’, Fibromyalgia, which has not just impacted dramatically on my life, but also my children’s. What has driven me to launch the charity, despite still battling with my illness, is the fact that the donations we receive and funding we raise will be going straight to where it’s needed – to the researchers, whose financial support is often either lacking or cut at the last minute. Research For Life will be organising a road show of talks across the country over the coming months, in order to raise awareness of the relevant illnesses and help to place these conditions on the government’s agenda. The talks will feature a variety of speakers, including medical experts and patient spokespeople. Trustees of Research For Life are: Gates open at 2pm and the afternoon will finish at 6pm. Tickets are £6 per person. There will be drinks and Cream Teas available to buy throughout the afternoon. Tickets available at the Gate.
